An often overlooked feature of the Viper 1100R digital tachometer is its ability to also function as a full featured water temperature gauge – something none of the other digital tachometers in the price range offer. In this latest blog entry we’ll take a quick dive into the Viper 1100R’s water temperature feature.
Our goal in manufacturing the Viper 1100R was to build the best unit for under $200 possible. While there are a lot of good choices for racers that won’t to make the full leap into more expensive data acquisition type systems, there is not as much available for those racers looking for more basic functionality. At $139.95, the Viper 1100R is one of the lowest costs units in the segment – but ironically offers more functionality than it’s direct competition.
One of the ways the Viper 1100R pushes the envelope on value is through the inclusion of functionality that allows the unit to operate as a full-featured water temperature gauge – while also performing all of its functions as a tachometer.
In most basic terms, the Viper 1100R is capable of displaying water temperature in either farenheit or celcius. The Viper 1100R goes one step further by allowing the driver to program a warning light that comes on at whatever temperature the driver chooses. We know how hard it is to focus on gauges in the heat of battle, so the bright red warning light provides a nice heads up visual display. The Viper 1100R also displays the highest water temperature reached for the session.
The Viper 1100R also allows the driver to select the screen display they like best. The primary display shows a numerical read-out of RPMs along with a bar graph read-out of RPMs and then a numerical read-out of water temperature in the right hand corner. An optional display allows the driver the opportunity to display only the bar graph read-out of RPMs and a larger numerical display of water temperature in the middle of the screen.
